Did you try to watch “New Moon Movie”
-by Timothy Caron

Hey guy’s and gal’s,

In a recent email from PCTools.com their team of experts found a few malware websites that talk about ps users trying to watch the movie a “New Moon.”

What they found was that the opportunity was bogus. Here’s there take on the matter.

At PC Tools, we want all our users to be aware of the latest threats so they can take steps to protect themselves.

PC Tools’ Malware Research Center has discovered another online Twilight scam, promising viewers they can watch the “New Moon” movie for free. Here’s what really happens:

• Fans are baited with the text websites, chat rooms and blogs that read: “Watch New Moon Full Movie.” Concurrently, comment posts are filled with related keywords to attract more search engines.

• Search results for the movie then link users to stolen images from the movie itself, convincing the fan that the movie is only one click away.

• When they click on the “movie player” they are told to install a “streamviewer”.

• The streamviewer, however, installs malware on the user’s computer.

This is of course part of a larger trend, where cybercriminals use the popularity of current affairs, world events and even movie premieres to attract people who seek free or pirated content.

Our advice is to see films in the cinema. Sure the popcorn is over-priced, but it’s still cheaper than having your bank details taken from your PC and your account drained of funds.

Regards,
The PC Tools Team

Until next time, have a wonderful day.

PostHeaderIcon Microsoft, Google And Twitter Oh My!

2 Deals may bring revenue for Twitter
-by Timothy Caron

Hey Guy’s and Gal’s, I’ve got some of the latest scoop from the NYTimes that talks about Twitter bringing in revenue through the likes of Microsoft and Google.

In a recent article posted by Claire Cain Miller pubished today from San Francisco she states:

Back-to-back deals on Wednesday to make the company’s steady stream of posts available to Microsoft and Google’s search engines may point to a potential new source of cash. How large, however, is not known. The terms of the deals were not disclosed and Evan Williams, Twitter’s chief executive, said in an interview that revenue was “not the focus of the deals.”

She also stated that Microsoft did not plan to put ads on its Twitter search service for now, and Google said ads might appear at a later date.

You can read the article hear.

It is evident that Twitter has far surpassed the expectations of Microsoft, Google and even some other Social Media websites, and has become a force to be reckoned with.

With the advent of real time search capabilities, how do you think this will effect your over all social media strategies?

Also, do you think this will effect how your optimize your website for the search engines.
I’d love to know your thoughts.

Until next time, have a wonderful day
Timothy

Warning! They’ve Gone Phishing on Twitter Again!

As reported by Adam Ostrow (Adam Ostrow) on Mashable.

It looks like a Twitter phishing scam has re-emerged. Today some people were greeted by a direct message saying “you’re on this vid” with a link attached. Some people clicked the link, and realized it appeared to be a phishing scam.

They’re right, it’s definitely a scam, as the Twitter search reveals there are lots of users spreading the same message – presumably after logging in on the phishing site – and others tweeting about receiving the same DM. The site in question looks just like Twitter, but if you look at the address bar in your browser, you’ll see the url/site is not actually twitter.

A word of warning, the best way to avoid this twitter phishing scam is to avoid clicking the link, and to not provide your Twitter username and password on sites that look suspicious (most third party twitter apps should be using OAuth, as an increased security measure). If you believe you’ve been scammed, be sure to change your twitter password immediately on twitter.com and not the phishing site itself.

Update: Other variations of this phishing scam that use the text “haha, that u on here?” and “lol this is funny” are also spreading quickly. Many of these phishing scams direct to a link that goes to a video of some sort.

See our other post from today titled: A Twitter Warning: when changing email, username or password.

Have you been or know someone that has been scammed on Twitter?

419 Scam Floods Facebook Accounts, Could Twitter bee it’s next Victim
- by Timothy Caron

Hey Guy’s and Gal’s, I recently read an article on PCWorld’s Website that went into detail about the “419 Scam” that is wreaking havoc on the Facebook Website.

The scammers use phishing techniques to trick Facebook members into providing log-in information. For example, fraudsters often send legitimate-looking e-mail messages purporting to be from Facebook that ask members to visit a Web page and enter their log-in credentials. They also post messages on members’ profile Walls with links to supposed video clips or photos that really lead to phishing Web sites. Read the rest of this entry »
